Backtuck Baskettoss

Picture
The picture I have is at one football game that I coached. These girls are 7th graders that are 13 and 14 years old. This trick is called a back tuck basket toss.  This is against the rules for the high school cheerleaders, but it is not against any rules in the middle school level because the board thinks that that young of an age would not be able to do these type of stunts. This is one of the hardest stunts possible, and I have not even done this before my little 13 year old 7th grader wanted to try it.

This photograph is 6 different photos put together as one. The people under the flyer, the girl in the air, give her that initial push from their hands. That is where she gains the rotational momentum. She stands up and lifts her arms. Tucking your arms and knees into your body lowers her moment of inertia and allows her to rotate faster through her center of mass. After she has flipped, the gravity pulls her back toward the earth right in the arms of the people underneath her.
